I recently visited Bishop’s Lodge, a gem in the Auberge Resorts Collection, on a Wedaways Travel FAM trip—and left completely inspired. Planning a destination wedding? Santa Fe should be at the top of your list. It’s soulful, stylish, and unlike anywhere else. And if you want the best wedding venue in Santa Fe — Bishop’s Lodge is the one to know.
Nestled in the Sangre de Cristo foothills, Bishop’s Lodge blends history, design, and wellness into one unforgettable location. If you’re a couple looking for the perfect southwest wedding location, look no further than Santa Fe.
This place is special. Built more than 150 years ago, Bishop’s Lodge is rich with cultural heritage. Today, it’s been lovingly restored as part of the Auberge Resorts Collection.
The adobe architecture and earthy textures create a warm, grounded feel. But the elegance is undeniable. You get luxury, but with soul—and every detail is designed for celebration.
Our trip began with something truly memorable: the Sky Railway Sunset Serenade. We boarded just before golden hour and enjoyed a four-course dinner on board while a local musician played. As the sun set over the desert, it felt cinematic.
Fun fact: a scene from Oppenheimer was filmed in the very car we were in. And George R. R. Martin? He’s a regular guest on this same route.
This would be an incredible start to a wedding weekend.
Later that evening, back at the Bunkhouse, we cozied up for stargazing and s’mores by the fire. With the guidance of a Bishop’s Lodge constellation expert, we learned stories written in the stars. It was peaceful, grounding, and exactly the kind of slow, intentional experience couples crave on their wedding weekend. I even discovered a new tea I now love: jasmine pearl. This peaceful moment was a reminder of what a luxury Santa Fe wedding can offer—space to slow down and connect with the people you love.
The next morning, we took a private walking tour of downtown Santa Fe. I fell in love. Historic adobe buildings, galleries, and charming shops line the streets. The Santa Fe Plaza would be a stunning setting for portraits or a welcome event.
Art lovers should stop at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, which left a big impression on me. They’re currently expanding, so there’s even more to experience next time.
If you’re able, please check out Kakawa Chocolate House or book them for a chocolate tasting experience. Their tasting flight was incredible, especially the re-creation of Marie Antoinette’s hot chocolate recipe. I’m still dreaming about it and plan to order it for home.
Bishop’s Lodge is more than a venue—it’s an experience. You can host welcome parties, ceremonies, and brunches across several spaces: the Lodge House, event lawns, and the Bunkhouse.
But the real magic is in the customizable experiences. Think horseback rides, spa treatments, and curated menus. Your guests won’t just attend your wedding. They’ll remember it forever.
If you want more than a pretty backdrop, Santa Fe delivers. It’s full of character, creativity, and culture. And Bishop’s Lodge brings all of that together with five-star service and flexibility.
Whether you’re dreaming of an art-filled celebration or a weekend that blends wellness, adventure, and style, Santa Fe might be the destination you didn’t know you needed. Let’s design a wedding that feels like a personal story—layered with texture, joy, and meaning.
